The Solo House by Pezo von Ellrichshausen rises above the forest floor on a single, central concrete column. A horizontal plane stretches out in all directions, symmetrically-placed on the support column below. Its repeated cubic pattern features floor-to-ceiling glass walls on the sides and open patios on the corners, all emphasizing a visual connection with the rolling landscape beyond. Despite the inherently functional elements in Solo House’s concrete structure, there is something sculptural about its language. In contrast to the breathing organic forest around it, Solo House stands monolithic, a stone temple of sorts where its occupants can peacefully meditate on the nature around them. It is a success in design, another remarkable work by Pezo von Ellrichshausen, whose mastery with concrete and cubism should be revered. [photography by estudio palma]
